Private spanish lessons
Hi there! I’m Nikki and I’ve been teaching since 2005. If you’re looking for private Spanish lessons, you’ve come to the right spot. You must be ready for some real progress in Spanish if you’re searching for private Spanish lessons. By the way, even though I say “you” it’s possible you are looking for lessons for your kids. For the sake of simplifying this article please know that even when I say “you” I’m speaking to both adult students and parents seeking lessons for their kids.

I’m so happy you’re visiting this blog post because teaching is my passion, especially teaching a life long skill. When you learn another language it truly does impact your life whether it impacts your career, your travels, or the ability to converse with more people and therefore make more friends.
If you’re still here, you might want to learn a little about me and how I can help you reach new heights in Spanish, whether you’re just getting started, you’re somewhere in the middle, or you’re advanced.
Here are some important facts about me:
- My students enjoy my lessons because I’m patient, I smile, and I challenge them to grow
- My bachelor’s degree is in Spanish and my master’s in secondary (high school) education with a focus in Spanish
- I started teaching private Spanish lessons online well before the pandemic. In fact, I’ve taught online since 2016. I’ve primarily taught ESL online to kids and adults, but my background is in Spanish, ESL and bilingual education.
- I’ve taught all levels of Spanish (beginner to AP) and all ages, but I prefer to teach ages 8 and up (including adults)
- My Spanish level is considered “near native” which means I speak close to the same as a native speaker in terms of fluency. I’ve done some interpreting for doctors, physical therapists, and teachers/parents
- I studied abroad in Spain and have also traveled to various places in Mexico dozens of times

Spanish classes Near Me
When you Google “Spanish classes near me” you might not need that option anymore since so much is going online. I know a lot of people prefer lessons in person, but I’ve really enjoyed teaching online. I make the experience pleasant for my students. I’m a pro at teaching online because I know how to interact, make the information clear, and engage you! I pinky promise that you will NOT be missing any instruction that can’t be done in person. Similarly, I always connect with my students as human beings despite the barrier of the screen. I can guarantee several laughs.

Classes In Spanish
So what are the classes in Spanish like? Before our lesson I’ll get an idea of your Spanish level (or your child’s) via e-mail. Then I prepare materials based on your level and your interests. I typically use PowerPoint, newsela.com for articles in Spanish, boom cards, flash cards on spanishdict.com, or quizlet for practice. The materials I use supplement the lesson while I engage you with activities, conversation, and games for practice. You can sign up below if you’re ready to get started now.
Skype Spanish Lessons
Skype Spanish lessons? Honestly, I think Skype is a thing of the past for online lessons because Zoom caters to teaching and learning while Skype is better for conversing.
Zoom Spanish lessons are great because we can screenshare, use a virtual whiteboard, record the lesson if you prefer, and use the chat box, plus a handful of other tools.
I’ve been using Zoom for online lessons since 2016 when I first started teaching online. It truly is the best option for online lessons.

Learn Spanish In the Car
I only recommend learning Spanish in the car if someone else is driving or if you’re only doing listening practice. With online learning I could provide you with listening practice by doing some voice recordings or YouTube videos if there is enough interest from students. As an online ESL teacher I’ve had both kids and adults take lessons in the car.

Practice Speaking Spanish Online
The best way to practice speaking Spanish online is to work with a teacher or a group of students who are at a similar level as you. If you practice speaking Spanish online with people who are more advanced than you it could be overwhelming and discouraging. You want to speak with people who help you grow, but that doesn’t mean you can only do that with advanced speakers. First you want to practice with what you know and gradually grow from that point.
You can absolutely practice immersing yourself through videos, songs, TV shows and movies, but do it in an intentional way such as listening carefully for specific verbs, phrases, or grammar points. For example, if you’re practicing past tense (preterite) you could listen to a movie and try to listen for all past tense words throughout the movie instead of trying to understand everything they’re saying.
Online Spanish School
Due to COVID-19 you might be seeking an online Spanish school for yourself or your child. I think that is very smart if your child is unable to continue in the setting they were in before. Let me share a story with you about a family I have worked with for four years. The family had their daughters in an immersion program in Michigan and moved to Illinois, which is where I’m located. They asked me about doing Spanish lessons once a week.
I’ve worked with their daughters once a week since they left the immersion program. The daughter who had 6 years in the immersion program kept up with her fluency due to the lessons. However, the daughter who had only 3 years in the immersion program has lost a lot of her Spanish because we only have one lesson a week. I can only imagine how much she would have lost if we didn’t have any lessons at all. Likewise with the older daughter, she may have lost a significant amount of her Spanish skills if we hadn’t had our lessons.
It’s so important to continue practicing a language, especially for kids. I’ve heard so many stories of kids who spoke a language fluently when they were young, but lost that skill due to lack of exposure or not practicing.
